From East to WestRight out of college, I started out with a non-profit in Atlanta. In that kind of gig, you have to do anything and everything. They needed a brochure, I did it. A website, I learned it. A new video, just buy me a camera and I'll figure it out.
Of course, 9 years of busting your tail faithfully for pretty low pay gets old, so I accepted a position with MX Logic in Denver, CO. After about 2 years with this startup, they were acquired by McAfee, who, in turn, was acquired by Intel. Eventually, the parent company started cutting departments. At the start of 2012, I started working with KBZ, a Cisco Master Disti out of Pennsylvania. They decided they wanted more of a "planner", whereas I'm more of a "doer" so things didn't work out. But boy did I ever try to make it work! When John Street, the founder of MX Logic, decided to get the band back together and form Pax8, I was part of the early wave of people they wanted on board. Things were rocky and I went through two separate layoffs, but I again proved myself faithful and came back when the door was reopened. During those "rocky" periods I did freelance work, including a few months doing very pretty jewelry layouts for ShaneCo. I didn't know I had it in me. Now, things are rolling along at Pax8 and I find myself working with an outgoing bunch of people who appreciate each other and rely on one another every day. It's a new challenge every hour and it's a lot of fun. |
